Zooom Organizes Another Successful Ceremony
Red Bull Illume Overall Winner Announced
Krystle Wright wins the seventh edition of Red Bull Illume, the world’s greatest adventure and action sports imagery contest. The Australian photographer becomes the first woman to win the contest with her breathtaking shot of a climber illumed in Moab, UT, United States. The announcement concluded a hugely successful Winner Award Ceremony in the heart of the Alps in Sölden, Austria. As one of our tentpole events, together with our main partner Sölden we organized every facet of Red Bull Illume from the submission phase through to the Winner Award Ceremony and the Exhibit Tour.
What makes a zooom event different? Every detail is painstakingly organized by us with everything the photographers, judges and media need. Firstly, we brought the participants from all over the world to Sölden, then planned a rock-solid agenda of talks by overall winners of previous editions, workshops hosted by our partners Canon, MPB and Radiant Photo and get togethers for the attendees. Finally through our partnership with Sölden we brought it all together with the legendary Winner Award Ceremony split between the ice Q Restaurant, FALCON and the Hotel Central, all unique venues provided by Sölden. Our connections in the tourism, action sports and photography industry mean that we know exactly what’s needed and expected at such an event. After all, it is the seventh time we’ve held one!

Massive exposure
Red Bull Illume was founded in 2006 by our Chief Mechanic Ulrich Grill to shed a light on the often-unsung heroes behind the lens. With events like the Winner Award Ceremony not only is that achieved, but it is also exceeded. The artists behind the top 50 submissions, plus the judging panel consisting of industry experts and selected media came together to celebrate the photographers. This all cumulated at the ceremony, which was live streamed from Sölden, connecting thousands of viewers from around the world.
Each edition of Red Bull Illume is different. Growing from Ulrich’s modest wish to give more recognition to photographers, the Winner Award Ceremony has now taken place in three different continents and different exotic locations. Even during the pandemic, we were able to be agile and adapt with a remote ceremony and local celebrations. Now thankfully with normality restored we are back and bigger than ever.
Global Exhibit Tour starts
Now with the Winner Award Ceremony wrapped up, the global Exhibit Tour of the top 50 images begins. First, there will be an outdoor exhibit in Sölden which runs until 21 December. The images also travelled to the Berlin Travel Festival straight after the ceremony, followed by Hangar-7 in Salzburg from December 13 until February 4. After this the images set off to illuminate the world, stay tuned to redbullillume.com for updates.
To show the images in their full glory we have three sets of 2x2m lightboxes provided by CCS Fabric Frame, two in Europe and one in North America. The exhibit tour let us display the finalist submission in places not usually associated with the adventure and action sports worlds, bringing even more exposure to the images. We believe great photography should be properly appreciated and it's hard to do that on a phone or screen. That’s why the exhibit tour is so unique and special – it makes you appreciate action sports photography in a new light.

Limited-Edition Red Bull Illume Photobook
On top of the Winner Award Ceremony and the exhibit tour we are releasing the limited-edition Red Bull Illume Photobook. This premium Photobook includes all of the top 250 submissions plus photographer biographies and about the shot information of the top 50.
