New Red Bull X-alps Documentary

The champions challenge debuts on Red Bull TV

This year’s edition was a momentous occasion, it was the 20th anniversary of the legendary adventure race.  In Red Bull X-Alps 2023 we had 28 male and 4 female athletes race for a chance to stand on the coveted podium of the world’s toughest adventure race, in which athletes hike and fly across the Alps via foot and paraglider. There was a record number of athletes who made the goal and for the first time a female competitor making it to goal. The legendary race has now been immortalised with the official Red Bull X-Alps documentary: The Champions Challenge.

The world’s toughest adventure race

The Champions Challenge tells the story of the battle at the front, following then 7x champion Chrigel Maurer as he hikes and flies around the 1,223km course followed by the challengers – Maxime Pinot, Damien Lacaze and Pal Takats.

With 2023 being the 20-year anniversary of the first ever Red Bull X-Alps, the 40-minute documentary also delves into the archives to show footage from the early years. It includes an interview with the only man to have taken part in every edition, the Romanian Toma Coconea, veteran athlete Tom de Dorlodot, and the race’s co-founder Ulrich Grill.

A Thrilling watch

“It’s a thrilling watch,” says Red Bull X-Alps co-founder and zooom Chief Mechanic Ulrich Grill. For us at zooom Red Bull X-Alps is one of our tentpole events. We organize every facet of the race, from the original route planning, the concept, sponsorships, press and of course the event management on-site. We also are responsible for the media too and the footage has all come together in this documentary which shows the best side of the event.

The Champions Challenge is available to watch for free on Red Bull TV and on redbullxalps.com.
